One question I’ve been asked several times this One question I’ve been asked several times this year regarding the AASI Snowboard Fundamentals is why we included rotation as one of the ways we control twist.
.
I took this shot while leading training at Beaver Creek last week, and it really clearly shows how rotation of the femur within the hip socket towards the nose of the snowboard controls twist to get early edge initiation.
.
So, while flex/extension of our ankles and knees may be the primary way we control twist, rotation is certainly a movement option!

This is a shot from my first long ride wakefoiling without a rope a few weeks ago. After a few short rides where it started to come together, on this go it just happened.
Last year we weren’t sure if we would ever get this wakefoil thing figured out to a degree that we could surf without the rope. This summer proved that perseverance in learning (through bruised thighs, sliced shins, and smashed toes) pays off.
The feeling of surfing a hydrofoil on a wake is unreal, as seen in my expression of incredulity. This is the closest feeling you can get to riding 2’ of pow.
