This is the original business card we hit the road with in 1999

I started SBG with two good friends in the fall of 1998 as we prepared to hit the road on a snowboard roadtrip. It’s been more than a decade since I started cobbling together bits of code to make a website that would catalog our trip as we traveled from Alaska into Canada and then down through Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado during what was to be one of the best seasons on record.Read More »SBG: Where we’ve been, where we’re at, where we are going

Off-Snow Training: Trampolines

One of our most commonly asked questions is “How do I prepare for a snowboard or ski vacation?” While there is no easy answer, there are a number of ways you can prepare your body and mind for a trip to the mountains. Off-snow training regiments can benefit riders in many ways, including conditioning, balance, and freestyle advancement. Snowboarding uses a diverse set of muscles; creating a work-out plan to keep them all in shape is no easy feat, considering that many of our guests ride no more than 20 days per year. The storm went a bit south and buried resorts in southern Colorado, but Steamboat still made out with plenty of snow.

But then that first crisp note of snow in the fall air triggers it, and suddenly, the snow can’t come soon enough.

The smell of snow came early this year, but the snow itself is only just starting to show up. I spent the time rebuilding my childhood winter playground.

For those that don’t know, my wife and I spend our summers in Fairbanks, Alaska. I grew up in Fairbanks, learned to ski about the same time I learned to walk, and started snowboarding at age 10. People think of Alaska as a skiing and snowboarding Mecca, and while areas of Alaska are incredible, Fairbanks is cold, and doesn’t get much snow.Read More »Getting ready for winter
